Hanns Küng (19/03/1928) is a Swiss theologian vanguard
known internationally for his numerous writings critical of the Church of Rome.

About ethics of medical care, Küng says in his book on the dignity of dying:
"What man does not have a duty to preserve one's life through exceptional means is a classic axiom of moral theology. No patient in any case has an ethical duty to undergo any therapy and any operation that prolongs its life. (...) And patients' rights to decide freely whether or not to undergo certain medical treatments. No doctor has the duty to prolong human life at any cost, thus meeting a prolonged agony. "

But the Swiss theologian's doctrinal clashes against the opportunism of the chaste Vatican are not so recent. Since 1970
